Captain Kesper Vaun was one of the first non-clones to join Palpatine's Grand Army of the Republic.  As the Clone War escalated, the Republic could not replace their losses quickly enough, so many members of Coruscant's security forces as well as many of the Republic's loyal citizens flocked to Palpatine's banner and joined in the fight against the Seperatists.
